The Potala Palace will implement a free visit policy from November 1st to March 15th 2019. During this period, visitor can use the ID card to collect free tickets for the day to visit. However, when the tourists are over 4,000, tourists need reserve tickets one day in advance. The visit time is tentatively scheduled from 9 am to 3 pm. If the number of tourists increases, the opening hour will be adjusted.
It is reported that from May 1 to October 31 each year is the busy season for tourism, the price of the ticket is 200 yuan; the low season is from November 1 to next April 30, the price of the tickets is 100 yuan. Due to the preferential policy of “Winter Tour in Tibet” launched by the Tibet Autonomous Region, the Potala Palace will implement a free visiyt policy from November 1st to March 15th, 2019.
During this period, visitor can take a valid ID card to the ticket office of Potala Palace to fetch free entrance tickets on the same day, where is located on 100 meters the west of the main entrance of the Potala Palace.
While implementing the free policy, in order to avoid excessive concentration of tourists lead to the pressure on the wooden buildings of the Potala Palace, visitor need reserve the entrance tickets one day in advance while the visitors over 4000. Tourists can check the visitor volume and tickets information on the official website of Potala Palace.
Due to the official website of the Potala Palace is operated high-load, the Management Office of Potala Palace will maintain and upgrade the system after the busy season. This time, the Management Office decided to temporarily close the official website of the Potala Palace at 00:00 am on November 1, 2018 to 00:00 on November 10, 2018 for equipment maintenance and system upgrade.

Next, we'll send visa invitation letter to you and our partner in Kathmandu. When you arrive in Kathmandu, you need to meet with our partner and give them your original passport, then they will go to Chinese embassy and apply for Chinese Group Visa for you. When you board plane from Kathmandu to Lhasa, they'll only check your passport and Chinese Group Visa.
