This year, applying for a tibet travel permit to Tibet will be easier for overseas tourists as the regional government makes efforts to boost tourism.

According to Qizhala, Qi Zhala, chairman of the regional government, The Tibet autonomous region plans to cut the time for issuing tibet travel permits to overseas tourists by half in 2019. It normally takes at least 15 days to receive the permits after they submit the applying documents.

It will significantly improve the accessibility for overseas visitors.

Recent years, Tibet is devoted to brand itself as the world’s “Third Pole” and hope to attract more tourists by providing more tour-friendly services, such as issued the winter travel preferential policies and so on.

It achieved significant results. According to the government work report to the annual of session of the regional people’s congress, Tibet received 33.68 million visits from tourists in 2018, an increase of 31.5 percent year-on-year, and hope to attract 40 million visits this year.

Hong Wei, an official with the regional tourist development bureau, said in 2018, Tibet received more than 270,000 overseas travelers. The number of overseas tourists in Tibet has been increasing steadily in recent years as it has been more open to overseas tourists.

Tibet tibet travel permit is needed in addition to Chinese visa for overseas tourists because of Tibet’s unique ethic traditions, cultural heritage, reception capacity and ecological protection needs.

Tibet started drafting measures to simplify the application procedure last year, and they will be introduced as soon as possible. Also, instead of having to send all application materials to Tibet, overseas tourists in the future will be able to apply for permits in other cities like Beijing, Xi'an and Chengdu.

Hong said Tibet also plans to build an international tourism cooperation zone in Mt Kailash range so that pilgrims from the Tibet and neighboring countries such as India and Nepal who believe that walking a full circle around Kailash can bring prosperity and purify one’s sins of a life. Services stops specializing in accommodating the needs of overseas pilgrims and tourists are also planned, Hong said. Tibet will also plan more opening-up measures and improvements in connectivity with South Asia.

Dear Mo***,

Greetings from Nancy at Budget Tibet Tour, thanks for visiting our website and sending your inquiry. Sorry we do not have any group tour in Jan or Feb to Kailash as there will be heavy snow and the road will be blocked, and also the area would be closed, and no one do the business there, no hotel, no restaurants there. So from Nov to March we would not send any groups there.
If you would like to do this tour, you must plan it from April to Oct. and at present we have the group tour in next 6th May and 29th May, and we will have more available date in future. if you are interested in joining in this, please kindly let me know. Best regards.
