Tibet, with an average altitude of over 4000m, is known as the roof of the world. Complicated topography and varied weather bless it with rich natural and tourism resources. For that, thousands of tourists from domestic and abroad flock to Tibet for sightseeing. Though Tibet is really worth a visit, there are still some challenges for a Tibet trip. Extreme weather, thin air, low humidity, increased ultraviolet radiation, and decreased air pressure, all of which can cause problems. Among which, high altitude sickness is the most concerned issue. Inadequate acclimatization may lead to altitude illness in travelers at any age, even those who have trained before setting off. Besides, there are many physical limitations for some travelers to enter to Tibet, particularly those who are not fit enough to travel to high elevations. 1. Children Who Are Younger than 7 Age

High altitude should be avoided in children aged under 7 year. Researches show that children aged under 7 year are more likely to develop acute mountain sickness than adults. Symptoms like headache, nausea, fatigue, anorexia, dizziness, and sleep disturbance will occur when they suffering from acute mountain sickness. And these symptoms are not good for the development of their lungs, brains, and hearts. Though travelling to Tibet with children might be full of challenges, the beautiful landscapes are worthwhile.

2. People who Are Old and Not Fit Enough  

1). The Elderly who has the following health problems are not advised to travel to Tibet. Such as uncontrolled glycuresis, epilepsy, high blood pressure, heart diseases, blood diseases, cranial vascular diseases, chronic respiratory system diseases, cardiovascular or hepatic diseases. For ordinary tourists, we suggest you consult doctor for personalized health advice before beginning your tour plan.  

2). Travelers with organic heart diseases such as obvious irregular heartbeat,
resting heart rate is greater than 100 beats / min, hypertension II and above, various blood diseases, and cerebrovascular disease. 

3). People with chronic respiratory diseases and medium obstructive pulmonary diseases like bronchitis, bronchiectasis, emphysema, active tuberculosis, pneumoconiosis.

4). People who have uncontrolled diabetes, epilepsy, schizophrenia.

5). People who catch cold are not advised to travel to Tibet because high altitude sickness will be exacerbated if travelers catch cold. You’d better keep doing regular exercise to keep fit.

6). People who have once been diagnosed with high altitude pulmonary edema, high altitude cerebral edema, high altitude hypertension, high altitude heart disease, or altitude erythrocytosis.

7). High risk pregnant woman.

3. Notice for Tibet Tour

1). We advise tourists to eat some anti-altitude medicines like Acetazolamide before going to Tibet. Acetazolamide can prevent and reduce the symptoms of altitude sickness.

2). Go to your doctor for a complete medical examination before traveling to Tibet if you are not sure whether you are fit for Tibet tour.

3). Remember to bring enough clothes to keep warm since there is a large difference in temperature between day and night in Tibet.

4). Prepare certain drugs in case of emergencies.

Hi, I plan to arrive in Lhasa on the 9th of March in 2020 by train and would like to do a 4 day tour. Unfortunately there are no tours scheduled between January and April, will there be tours added or are there not any planned?

    Thanks very much for your inquiry. We currently have no group tour in February and March, if you would like to travel Tibet in these months, we are able to arrange a private tour for you. While there are several confirmed departure date for the group tour in January and April, if your time is flexible, you may consider joining a group tour in April.
