Tibet Permit 2018

Like previous years, Tibet opens to foreign tourists again from the very beginning of April after the complete closure in March. To some degree, April is seen as the beginning month for Tibet inbound tourism each year and Tibet permit policy declared in each April serves like an indicator for the whole year remains. Yet, it is still very hard to expect what's the next possible policy change could be. The new policy (restriction) could come out anytime if there is any sensitive event (anniversaries, visit by central-government officials or foreign politician) approaches or unexpected suddenness (social unrest, strike) take place. Based on our close relationship with related governmental bodies and rich experience in Tibet tourism, we will keep updating the latest Tibet permit policy in 2017 here if there is any new regulation come out.

UPDATING 2017 message

Notes: since China-Nepal border still remains closed due to the earthquake devastation in 2015, so now it's impossible to travel overland by car from Lhasa to Kathmandu, and so the permit for this overland tour cannot be obtained at this moment.

Updated on 17th, March, 2017

Good News! From 2017, the travel permits for the overland tours from Sichuan to Tibet, from Yunnan to Tibet have been resumed after 8 years suspension. Now, tourists can travel all the way overland by car from Chengdu to Lhasa, from Lijiang or Shangri-La to Lhasa.

Updated on 16th, March, 2017

Tibet travel permit application starts from 15th, March, 2017 officially, it's time to apply for the travel permit for Tibet tours in the beginning of April, 2017. The whole process goes smooth without any problem; some permits even have been approved and issued, which indicates 2017 will be a good year to travel to Tibet because there is no any special restriction.

Dear sir, madam,

I have a question about the 8-day tour from 29 Jan 2019. I am a solo traveler and really want to go to Tibet to do this tour but is it possible for me join this group tour by my self? Or do I have to be lucky that another solo traveler will join this group?

I am looking forward hearing from you!

Kind regards, Pi***

Hello!

My husband and I are looking at travel in April 2019. We currently are only a group of 2, but it is possible we may have another 2 friends join us.
We are comparing tours for the 7 day tour from Lhasa to Kathmandu. What price can you offer for group tour for 2 (or 4 people) for the Lhasa to Kathmandu trips if we were to book in the next two weeks?

Many thanks,
Ho***

Answered by Nancy

Dear Ms. Ho***,

Greetings from Nancy Chung at Budget Tibet Tour, thanks for visiting our website and sending your inquiry, if there are 4 people in your group, I recommend you to take it as private tour, thus you will have the guide and driver on your own, and the tour can be flexible. If there are 2 in your group, of course take part in a group tour is better, and we have several groups in April, or we can open a new date based on your travel time, and our group size is 4 to 13 people. And if you will book in next weeks, I can apply some discount for you. Please check the email for more details. Best regards.
