Detailed Itinerary of the 5 Days Xining to Lhasa Train Tour

Day 1 Board the Train to Tibet

The famous Qinghai-Tibet Railway start from Xining Railway Station, our local guide will send train ticket and Tibet Permit before train departure. It takes about half hour to check in, please be sure to arrive at the train station at least one hour before the train departure. Your passport, Chinese visa and Tibet Permit will be checked when you check in. Stay overnight on the train.

Day 2 Arrival and Acclimatization

Today, you will enjoy the fabulous scenery along the way, a variety of grassland, desert, snow mountains and the lakes would attract you deeply. The part of railway from Golmud to Lhasa is the highlight of this train journey. When you arrive in Lhasa, your guide and driver will pick you up there in person with a warm Tibetan style welcome ceremony and afterwards transfer you to the hotel. From the train station it is only about 15km and takes about 20 minutes by drive. And then, have a good rest to acclimatize the high altitude. Overnight in Lhasa.

Day 3 Lhasa City Tour

Today, you will visit Potala Palace, the landmark of Tibet. The massive structure itself contains a small world within it, in which myriad chapels, audience halls, Buddhist frescoes, Thangkas, combinations of Mandela, figures of the Buddha stored. In the afternoon, you will go to Johkang Tempe, it is the most revered religious structure in Tibet. Thick with the smell of yak butter, the murmur of mantras and the shuffling of wide-eyed pilgrims, the Johkang is an unrivalled Tibetan experience. Surrounding the Johkang is Barkor Street, where you can purchase souvenirs such as artifacts, antiques, Thangkas, and ect, also can taste local food like Tibetan noodles, buttered tea. Day 4 Lhasa City Tour

In the morning, drive about 8km west of central Lhasa to Drepung Monastery, once world’s largest monastery with about 10,000 monks, it used to serve as the government center in Tibet until fifth Dalai Lama moved to the famous Potala Palace. In the afternoon, drive to visit Sera Monastery, which is famous for its scripture debate session among monks that starting every afternoon except Sunday. Stay overnight in Lhasa.

Day 5 Departure Transfer

Today, Lhasa airport or train station dropping off, the time to say you farewells to your guide and driver, tour ends.
