Tibet tours from Nepal within 5 steps

Tibet tours from Nepal are quite different from travelling into Tibet from Chinese side concerning the formalities. If you enter from Chinese side, you can take train or flight with your passport, Chinese visa (obtained in your country) and Tibet permit (sent to you by your Tibet tour operator). However, if you travel to Tibet from Nepal side, you neither apply for the Chinese visa in your country nor need your Tibet tour operator send you the Tibet permit, but how? What follows is steps with pictures tell you how to secure a Tibet tour from Nepal.

Step 1:
Send by email the scan copy of your passport to your Tibet tour operator who is going to apply for the Visa Invitation Letter for Tourist Group for you issued by the Tibet Tourism Bureau. Remember that this must be done at least 15 days before your Tibet tour starts.

Step 2:
It takes about 4 working days for your Tibet tour operator to get the invitation letter and permit issued from the Tibet Tourism Bureau, and then we will fax the letter and permit to our visa agent in Kathmandu who is going to apply for the Chinese Group Visa for you.

Step 3:
Arrive in Kathmandu and meet our visa agent there, the Chinese Embassy in Kathmandu accepts visa application form from 9 AM to 2 PM from Monday to Friday; but it takes at least 3 working days to get the visa issued. You have to give your original real passport to our visa agent there and please bring one photo of passport-size pic when meet them in Kathmandu. Visa fee varies depends on your nationality and how urgent you need it. What follow is the fees for your reference. And our partner visa agent in Kathmandu will charge you USD 20 per person as service fee.

Normal Urgent
Process Duration 4 working days 3 working days
US Citizens USD 140 p/p USD 155 p/p
Canadian Citizens USD 120 p/p USD 135 p/p
Romanian Citizens USD 80 p/p USD 90 p/p
Other Citizens USD 50 p/p USD 65 p/p

Step 4:
Meet our visa agent in Kathmandu again to pick up your Chinese group visa; generally it will be in the afternoon from Monday to Friday. And if your form is submitted on Friday, it will be Monday afternoon when you pick up the visa

Step 5:

After all the documents obtained in hand, now your Tibet tour from Nepal really starts. There are only two ways to travel to Tibet from Nepal, by air or by overland. (1): By air, you can fly from Kathmandu to Lhasa with the only available airline-Air China (www.airchina.com), we advise you book your air ticket as early as possible, because it’s cheaper to book early; our guide and driver will then pick you up at airport in Lhasa with travel permit. (2): By overland, if you want Nepal to Tibet overland tours, you can rent a taxi from Kathmandu to Gyirong (border) by yourself, after finishing all the border formalities at both sides, the Chinese border army will lead you to our guide (with travel permit) who will be waiting for you at the border.

Dear Do***,

Greetings from Nancy at Budget Tibet Tour, thanks for visiting our website and sending your inquiry. Based on your requests, and I think I would like to recommend you to fly to Lhasa from Kathmandu then take the 15days group tour, as we do not have group tour starting from Kathmandu then head to Kailash from there. All group tours will start from Lhasa. We have the 15 Days Kailash Trekking back to Lhasa group tour on 12th Sept. and 3rd Oct. 2019, sorry we have not set up a tour to Guge yet, but if you take it as private tour, no problem about it, of course the fee for solo tourist would be quite costly in Sept or Oct. and on 3rd Oct we have one female who would like to share room. And I will forward you more details to your email. Best regards.

user portrait Mr. Em*** from: 5 Days Lhasa & Yamdrok Lake Hiking Tour

Hello,

I am writing you to get more information on your 5 days Lhasa and Yamdrok tour.

Especially I would like to know if you can confirm me the dates and prices mentioned on the website for the month of October 2019 (apparently 8 departures in the month, prices between 590 and 680USD depending if beginning or end of October?). Regarding the price, I would also like to know if it is possible to get cheaper ones if spending the night in a cheaper accomodation, such as guesthouse, instead of 3 star hotel.

I thank you in advance for all this information.
If I get interesting information, I might make my choice of date quite soon, before the end of May.

Best regards,

Dear Em***,

Greetings from Nancy at Budget Tibet Tour, thanks for visiting our website and sending your inquiry.

1) Based on your situation I would like to recommend you 6days Lhasa to Shigaste group tour which will cover Yamdrok Lake too as this tour we can run even if there are 1 people, because we can mix it to 8days Everest group tour and get back to Lhasa by train from Shigaste. As for the 5days Yamdrok Lake tour, we only can start it when they are at least 2 people.

2) You can book the hotel in Lhasa on your own, so I can cut the hotel fee in Lhasa for you, and in Shigaste we can arrange you the guest house which will be cheaper but there will be no breakfast and you can have it on your own with 10-20RMB for meal.

3) If you can come to Tibet after 15th Oct, which will be better as less cost on the tour. And I will give you the choice for the whole month. Right now we have the date on 1st Oct, 3rd Oct, 16th Oct and 24th Oct and all the dates have people booked.

And I will forward more details to your email. Best regards.

Dear Mr. Mac,

Thanks very much for your inquiry. Tibet is part of China, so it's no problem for you to travel Tibet and go back to China with your single entry Chinese visa. I will send detailed itinerary to your email, please check it. Warm regards.
